Professional Bankroll Management

The difference between an amateur and a professional bettor is not who guesses right more, but who manages money better.

Survival

Rule number 1 is: Never go broke. A conservative management strategy (1-2% per bet) ensures you survive the inevitable bad runs.

Compound Growth

Small, consistent gains multiply over time. A 5% monthly profit transforms $1,000 into $1,800 in a year without taking excessive risks.

ROI vs Volume

Do not focus solely on your Win Rate. A 3% ROI with high volume is mathematically better than a 20% ROI on only a few bets.

Management Methods: Flat Betting vs Kelly Criterion

There are two main schools of thought in bankroll management:

  • Flat Betting: You always bet the same fixed amount (e.g., $50) or the same fixed percentage (e.g., 1% of your bankroll). This is the safest method and is highly recommended for beginners.
  • Kelly Criterion: The bet size varies dynamically according to the mathematical edge you find. The greater the advantage over the bookmaker, the larger the stake. While mathematically optimal for maximum growth, it carries a higher volatility risk.
